Jana Gaye (Herrin) Cockrell

Jana Gaye (Herrin) Cockrell, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, peacefully departed this world on October 6, 2026, at her home in the loving presence of her family. Born on September 4, 1958, in Moberly, Missouri, Jana lived a life full of grace, courage, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved. Jana was the cherished daughter of the late James Lee and Bessie Bea Herrin. She was raised in Moberly, where she graduated from Moberly High School in 1977. Her education paved the way for a rewarding career in the medical field, which she pursued with dedication for many years. Later, she served as the Human Resources Assistant for the City of Moberly until her health necessitated her retirement. On Valentine’s Day in 1986, Jana married the love of her life, Rick Cockrell. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared 40 years of marriage, filled with love and laughter. Jana's greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her devoted husband Rick; her sons, Jamie Cockrell (Samantha) and Jimmy Hunt; her siblings, Debbie Herrin, Gary Herrin (Mary), Mason (Tina) Herrin, and Jerry (Julie) Herrin; her adored grandchildren, Tyler Cockrell, Trenton Trusty, and Aliyah Hocker; and her precious great-grandson, Jameson Tyler Kitchen. Jana also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory close. Jana had a passion for crafts and was known for her creativity, often sharing her handmade treasures with family and friends. An avid lover of the outdoors, she took great joy in tending to her plants. Her true passion, however, was her family. Jana treasured time spent with her loved ones, whether gathered for barbecues, holiday dinners, or simple visits. Her strong will, courage, and infectious sense of humor, complemented by her special laugh, left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She is predeceased by her parents; her parents-in-law, Frank and Thelma Cockrell; and her sisters-in-law, Sandra Anderson, Patricia Ward, and Melinda Cockrell. In gratitude, the family extends their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers from St. Croix, especially Mickenzie and Tiffany, for their attentive and loving care. In honoring Jana's wishes, there will be no service. A Celebration of Life will be held October 18th 2026 at The Lodge-Rothwell Park from 2-4pm. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Jana. Jana Gaye (Herrin) Cockrell's legacy of love and resilience will continue to inspire and uplift those she leaves behind. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends, a testament to a life beautifully lived.
