July 28, 1949 — April 7, 2026

Jan Bates, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on July 28, 1949, Jan was a beacon of warmth and love to all who knew her. Jan was the cherished daughter of her late parents, and she shared a close bond with her siblings, predeceased by a sister and a brother. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the love of her family, including her surviving sister, Regina Riley and Brother in law Wayne who held a special place in her heart. Jan found the love of her life, Jack Bates, whom she married in 1985. Together, they built a life filled with joy and laughter until Jack's passing in 2018. Jan and Jack shared a profound love for family, which they lovingly extended to their children: Basil Bates, Wes and Shelly Bates, Angela Bates, and stepchildren Robert and Sherry Bates. Her heart was further filled with the joy of her grandchildren—Marshal, Wyatt, Gera, Tyler Bates , Bethany and Reed Alm, Chase and Jarren Hayes, Ashley and Jonny Cook, Ali and Mason Veach and her seven great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. A proud graduate of Sooner High School and Tricounty Tech, Jan dedicated over 20 years of her life to caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Bartlesville Allergy Clinic. Her compassionate nature and gentle spirit made her a beloved figure among her colleagues and patients alike. Jan's life was enriched by her passions and interests. She had a profound love for quilting, creating each piece with the love and care that mirrored her nurturing spirit. Sundays often found Jan in the kitchen, baking cookies with her grandchildren, a tradition that will be fondly remembered by her family. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel, with Branson, Missouri, holding a special place in her heart. She found immense joy in sharing these trips with her family, and she was known for her thrill-seeking love of roller coasters, a trait that her grandchildren adored. Jan's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and kindness. Her legacy is one of unwavering devotion to her family and a life lived with joy and compassion. Her warmth and generous spirit will continue to inspire and guide those she leaves behind. As we mourn the loss of Jan Bates, we also celebrate her remarkable life and the indelible mark she left on our hearts. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A celebration of Jan's life will be held on a date to be announced, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice, reflecting Jan's lifelong commitment to helping others.
