Jan Anthony Olenginski

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jan Anthony Olenginski, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on May 10, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on March 6, 1937, in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, Jan was the beloved son of Helen Krushka (Bavitz) and Walter Olenginski.
Jan's life was a tapestry of dedication, love, and service. He was predeceased by his dear daughter, Deborah Olenginski, and his loving parents, Helen and Joseph Krushka, and Walter Olenginski. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carolee Medico Olenginski, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage, celebrated with love and joy.
He was a proud and loving father to his children, Dr. Michael Olenginski and his wife Angela from Dallas, PA; Dr. Jan Olenginski Jr. and his wife Athena from Lafayette Hill, PA; and Dr. Jon Olenginski and his wife Jodi from Mountain Top, PA. Jan also embraced his role as a stepfather with open arms, sharing his heart with Angelo and his wife Shannon Medico, Karim Medico Letwinsky and her husband Billy, Carleen Medico, and Dr. Charles Medico and his wife Amory.
Jan's legacy is carried forward by his 20 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He was a guiding light and an inspiration to them all, teaching them the pleasures of fishing, card games, chess, and checkers, and imparting wisdom and warmth in every moment shared.
A graduate of Nanticoke High School, class of 1959, Jan pursued higher education with a steadfast commitment to excellence. He attended Wilkes University from 1954 to 1956 and subsequently graduated from the Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1960. His dedication to his profession led him to serve as a Major in the US Army, stationed in Mannheim, Germany, and later as Chief of Endodontics at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, NJ.
Jan's career as an orthodontist spanned over 40 remarkable years, with a thriving private practice in Wilkes Barre and Mountain Top. He was a respected figure in his field, admired by both colleagues and patients alike.
His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was an active and devoted member of St. Theresa's and St. Francis Cabrini church. Jan found solace and joy in his many hobbies, including his love for golf, which he enjoyed every Thursday at the Wyoming Valley Country Club. He possessed a true gift for the piano, both playing and composing, and cherished dancing with his beloved Carolee.
Family gatherings, particularly the annual Christmas celebration at their Mountain Top home, were a highlight for Jan and Carolee, bringing together their blended family in a spirit of love and unity.
A celebration of Jan's life was held on May 13, 2026, at St. Francis Cabrini. The service jhonored the remarkable man he was, paying tribute to his unwavering love, kindness, and generosity.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Jan's wonderful, loving caregivers: Samantha, Massiel, Martine, Gianna, Theresa, Lauren, Alexis, and nurse Joyce, who always brought a smile to his face. A special thank you to his companions: Stacy, Ariana, Cameron, and granddaughter Grace, who entertained him with affection and announced his meals with gourmet descriptions.
Jan Anthony Olenginski's life was a testament to love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to family and community. His memory will be eternally cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
