With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the unexpected passing of Jamonika Ronique Lightner, a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and colleague, who left us far too soon on June 4, 2026, at the age of 47, in New Braunfels, Texas. Her journey began on October 29, 1978, at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas, where she was born to James and Nancy Lightner. She was enveloped by a loving family, a strong faith in Jesus Christ, and the soothing melodies of music that would accompany her throughout her life.
Jamonika grew up with a zest for life that was infectious, bringing light and laughter to everyone she encountered. She graduated from Radford High School in 1994, setting forth on a path marked by dedication and service. In 2000, she enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving with honor and distinction until 2010. Whether stationed in Korea or stateside, Jamonika embraced the discipline, camaraderie, and sense of purpose that her military career provided. These experiences shaped her into the remarkable woman we all admired.
After her honorable service, Jamonika transitioned to a fulfilling role with the Department of Transportation, where she continued to make a difference in the lives of others. Outside of her professional endeavors, she was a creative soul who found joy in painting, writing and drawing often using her art as a way to express her innermost thoughts and emotions. Her life was a canvas, filled with vibrant colors, gentle strokes of kindness, and a tapestry of connections woven through her boundless generosity.
Jamonika was renowned for her quick wit and warm smile, always ready with a joke to lighten the mood or a kind word to lift someone's spirits. She possessed an innate ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued, a testament to her unwavering belief in the goodness of humanity. Her presence was a balm to those who knew her, and her legacy is one of love, laughter, and light.
