March 30, 1979 — June 8, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jamon Lamar Benson, a beloved husband, father, son, and friend, who left this world peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on June 8, 2026. Born on March 30, 1979, in Detroit, Michigan, Jamon lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and unwavering love for those around him.
Jamon was a devoted son to the late Annie Fields and James Benson, and he joins his cherished older brother, Nehru Andre Jabar Fields, and mother, Annie Fields, in eternal rest. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his beloved wife, Mandi Benson, and his five children, Jayla Benson, Jamon Benson Jr., Jasmyne Benson, Justin Benson, and S'Kylar Benson (Chantique Johnson).
In the summer of 1998, Jamon's life took a beautiful turn when he met Mandi. Their love story, which spanned over two decades, began with a chance encounter and blossomed into a union of inseparable companionship. They married in the spring of 2001, embarking on a journey filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their four beautiful children.
Jamon's educational journey included his graduation from Denby High School in 1997, after which he dedicated over 16 years to working as a Hailo driver for General Motors at both the Flint and Detroit-Hamtramck locations. His work was more than a job; it was a testament to his steadfast commitment to providing for his family and contributing to his community.
A true son of Detroit, Jamon was an ardent fan of the Lions and the Pistons, embodying the spirit and resilience of his beloved hometown. He cherished spending time with his children, whether it was a day of adventure at Belle Isle Park or a cozy movie night at home. Jamon's love for his family was boundless, and he created countless memories that will forever warm the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Jamon was known for his charismatic personality, infectious humor, and warm-hearted nature. He lit up every room he entered, making it impossible for those around him to do anything but laugh and feel at ease. His impeccable sense of style was evident in the way he dressed for even the simplest outings, a trait he lovingly passed on to his children.
A celebration of Jamon's life will be held on June 26, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Swanson Funeral Home, located at 806 East Grand Blvd, Detroit, MI 48207. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor the life of a man who brought joy and light to everyone he met.
In remembrance of Jamon, his family shares a heartfelt message: "You were truly one of a kind, Dad. You've left a hole in my heart that only you could fill. Please protect me and guide me until I, one day, see you again. I love you so much, Superman."
Jamon Lamar Benson will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will live on in the laughter, love, and cherished memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, wrapped in the eternal love of his family and friends.
