With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Jamil Lavar Turner, a cherished soul, who departed this world on May 5, 2026, in the comforting embrace of his home. Born on October 9, 1977, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, Jamil was a beacon of laughter, love, and unwavering support to all who knew him. Jamil's journey began under the nurturing care of his parents, Sol Gilbert, Jr. and Bessie Ree Turner, whose memories preceded him in death. A loving father, he now joins his beloved son, Peanut Stewart, and his dear sisters, Lorraine Harris and Diane Promise, in eternal rest. Jamil's legacy is carried forward by his devoted partner of six years, Vickie Bruner, and his cherished children: one son Devin Griffin (Carmen), 3 daughters: Nakethia Stewart, Rayshaud Thompson, and Sarah Taylor, 2 sisters: Niya Turner (Anthony) and Chivon Ford, continue to honor his memory, as well as his 3 nephews: Corneilus Turner(Hailey), Ralph and Johnny Promise, and nieces Quanitia Jackson and Latonya Promise. His circle of love extends to his two treasured grandchildren Demario and Kason Scott one great-neice and 3 great-nephew (A’neilya and Khyzer Turner, Xavier Clemens and L’morione Smith whose lives are a testament to his enduring spirit. Education was a cornerstone of Jamil's life, which he pursued earnestly in East Carroll Parish's public schools, later honing his skills at mechanic school. A man of many talents, Jamil excelled in every endeavor he undertook, a testament to his unyielding work ethic and determination. Jamil's faith was a guiding light throughout his life. An active member of the New Hope MB Church from an early age under Rev. Gus Lee's leadership, he later found a spiritual home at My Father's House in Columbus, Ohio, with Rev. Phillip Poindexter. His faith community was a source of strength and joy, reflecting his deep love for fellowship and worship. Known for his infectious humor and generous heart, Jamil was always ready with a joke or a helping hand, especially when it came to his passion for working on cars. His love of fishing and spending quality time with family and friends enriched the lives of those around him. A service to honor Jamil's life will be held on May 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the New Hope MB Church, located at 317 Mill Street. Family and friends will gather to celebrate a life well-lived and a spirit that continues to shine brightly in our hearts. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the New Hope Church Family, Harris Funeral Home, Lakewood Village, Franklin County Coroner’s Office, Forsenius Kidney Care, and Marlan J. Gary Funeral Home, The Chapel of Peace, in Columbus, Ohio, for their compassionate care and acts of kindness during this difficult time. In remembrance of Jamil Lavar Turner, we find solace in the love he shared and the memories he created, which will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
