James Zipse
May 4, 1946 — March 17, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we share the news of the passing of James Zipse, who left this world on March 17, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on May 4, 1946, in San Leandro, California, James was a man whose life was a testament to love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family and faith.
James was the beloved son of Marge and Gordon Grimes, who predeceased him but whose spirit lives on in his cherished memories. Growing up in San Leandro, James learned the value of hard work and community early in life, often lending a hand at his parents' restaurant at Deer Ridge. It was here that he developed his love for the outdoors and a deep appreciation for nature.
A man of many talents, James spent his professional years as a barber in San Leandro, where he not only honed his craft but also touched the lives of many with his quick wit and warm smile. His career eventually led him to Pioneer, California, where he found both a new home and the love of his life, Janet Zipse. After a long courtship, James and Janet married, embarking on a beautiful journey of over 30 years together. It was a second marriage for both, but from the moment they met, they knew they had found "the one."
Together, James and Janet built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. James was a devoted husband, a loving stepfather, and a proud grandfather to five grandchildren, who he adored and cherished. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved them fiercely.
James was known for his unwavering faith and was a pillar of strength and kindness to all who knew him. He welcomed everyone with open arms and treated each person he met with respect and compassion. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and generosity of spirit.
In his retirement, James continued to indulge his passion for the outdoors, spending peaceful days in the beauty of nature. He was a man who lived life to the fullest, always with a smile and a kind word.
James passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends, after bravely battling heart failure. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the incredible impact he had on our lives.
A service to honor James's life will be held on March 29, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Zipse residence, located at 26696 Buckhorn Ridge Rd, Pioneer, CA 95666. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, in memory of James's enduring spirit and love for life.
We will gather to remember James with the recitation of "The Lord’s Prayer," a reflection of his deep faith. As we honor his life, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in each of us.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for your kindness, prayers, and support during this difficult time. As we remember James, your support brings us comfort and strength. We are deeply grateful for your presence and love.
Rest in peace, dear James. Your legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in our hearts.
