James Trafford Higginbotham, I

November 28, 1945 — April 16, 2026

James Trafford Higginbotham, I, fondly known as "Jim," passed away peacefully in his home on April 16, 2026, at the age of 80, after a courageous and prolonged battle with cancer. Born on November 28, 1945, in the charming town of Franklin, Tennessee, Jim's life was a testament to the power of kindness, resilience, and love. Jim was the beloved son of Shirley Wright and Sarah Frances Higginbotham, who preceded him in death, along with his dear sister Sally Higginbotham. The bonds of family meant the world to Jim, and he was deeply cherished by those he leaves behind. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Linda Cave Higginbotham, whose unwavering support and love were the cornerstone of his life. Together, they built a beautiful family that will continue to carry forward his legacy. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Sarah "Sally" Marguerite Higginbotham, and his grandsons, William Blake and James Cooper Elmore. His son, James "Jimmy" Trafford Higginbotham, II, along with his daughter-in-law, Lauren Allison Higginbotham, and granddaughters, Mary Allison and Sarah Marguerite Higginbotham, were a constant source of pride and joy for Jim. His surviving siblings, Sonny (Shelly), Bill (Jane), and Andy (Jo Ann) Higginbotham, and sister Sue (Joe) Regonis, will forever cherish the memories of their shared childhood and the laughter he brought into their lives. Jim was a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he not only gained an education but also formed lifelong friendships. He bravely served his country with the U.S. Coast Guard in Vietnam, a testament to his courage and dedication. With a keen mind and a natural aptitude for all things mechanical and electrical, Jim was the go-to person for fixing or installing anything that needed attention. His intelligence was matched by a delightful sense of humor that could light up any room. He loved sharing jokes and was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a wise insight that others might overlook. Outside of his professional life, Jim found immense pleasure in the simple joys of life. Whether it was a leisurely game of golf, a challenging board game, or the quiet satisfaction of completing a puzzle, Jim found happiness in these moments. His favorite pastime, however, was being surrounded by family, sharing stories and laughter that would echo through the years. Jim was preceded in death by several cherished family members, including his mother-in-law, Marguerite "Pip" Cave, brothers-in-law Donald Cave, Gene Cosminsky, and Ronald Kennedy, sisters-in-law Kay Herring and Judy Kennedy-Boucher, and nephew Jay Manning. His extended family, Betty Cosminsky, Wayne (Jane) Cave, Barbara Cave, Billy Herring, and Ken Boucher, along with nineteen nieces, six nephews, and their families will continue to honor his memory and the love he shared with them. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, particularly Kayla, Lindsay, and Cynthia, Dr. Uzel from Southern Cancer, and Dr. McKelvey from Springhill Physicians Practice for their compassionate care and kindness during Jim's final days. In the spirit of Jim's life, we remember the words of Robin Williams: "Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always." It is with this kindness that his family invites you to celebrate his life and legacy.
