James Taylor Jr. March 8, 1957 – July 6, 2026 With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of James Taylor Jr., who departed this world on July 6, 2026, at the age of 69. Born in Eastover, South Carolina, on March 8, 1957, James was the cherished son of James and Martha Ann Taylor. He is now reunited in eternal rest with his beloved parents and his brother, Jerome Taylor. James was a devoted brother and uncle, whose warmth and joy touched everyone he met. He leaves behind a legacy of love shared with his three sisters, Mrs. Alice (Johnny) Jones, Mrs. Pearl (Troy) Jenkins, and Ms. Vivian Taylor, and two brothers, Mr. Johnney Taylor and Mr. Tommy Taylor. His presence will be dearly missed by his numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom he adored. A proud graduate of the Babcock Center, James dedicated his professional life to Spring Valley High School, where he worked as a janitor. Known for his diligent work ethic and friendly demeanor, he was an integral part of the school community, always greeting students and staff with a smile and a kind word. James possessed an infectious zest for life, marked by his unique quirks and endearing habits. Whether it was the ever-present toothpick or wooden cigarette holder in his mouth, his fondness for Mentos fruit candy, or his familiar questions like "What you doing?" and "Come see me," James had a way of making everyone feel at home. His love for life extended to the simple pleasures—spending afternoons grilling on his patio, watching his favorite show "My Wife and Kids," and caring for his beloved turtles. The family of James Taylor Jr. wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the Babcock Center and Chesco Services for providing outstanding care and support throughout his life. We are deeply thankful to the dedicated staff at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, whose compassion and kindness brought comfort to James and our family during his final days. A celebration of James's life will be held on July 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at Palmer Memorial Chapel, located at 1200 Fontaine Place, Columbia, SC 29223. We invite all who knew and loved James to join us in honoring his remarkable life and the joy he brought to others. James Taylor Jr. was a man who lived life with an open heart and a welcoming spirit. His memory will forever remain a source of strength and inspiration for all who knew him.
