James Stewart Bass, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on August 12, 2026, of a sudden massive heart attack. Born on June 9, 1960, in Amarillo, Texas, James lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
James was the cherished son of James Lollie (J.L.) Bass and Sydney Johnson, both of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Vanessa Bass, whom he married on March 14, 2025. Together, they built a loving home filled with laughter and cherished memories. James is also survived by his children, sons Brandon Bass and James Bass, and daughter Mallory Moore, along with her husband Ryan. His siblings, Brenda Wiemann and her husband Keith, and Sherman Bass and his wife Patricia, will continue to honor his memory.
A proud alumnus of Trinity University, James graduated in 1982 before pursuing his legal education at the University of Texas Law School, where he obtained his degree in 1985. Over the next four decades, James dedicated himself to private legal practice in Fort Worth, specializing in personal injury and workers compensation matters. His career was distinguished not only by his legal acumen but also by his unwavering dedication to justice and the well-being of his clients. James also served as a Municipal Judge for Richland Hills, Watauga, and Boyd, and as a Presiding Judge in Blue Mound and North Richland Hills.
James was a respected member of the community, serving as both a Shriner and a Master Mason. His commitment to helping others and giving back to his community was evident in every endeavor he undertook. Known for his endless patience and work ethic, James's kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Outside of his professional life, James cherished spending time with his family and friends. He had a passion for travel, particularly enjoying Carnival cruises where he was a proud member of the Carnival VIFP Club Diamond. He loved the thrill of gambling on the ship and was always eager to try new restaurants, sharing his culinary adventures with those he loved. James had an ever-present sense of humor, always ready with a new joke to bring a smile to those around him.
James's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. In recognition of his generous spirit, those wishing to honor his memory may do so by donating to a charity of their choice.
