December 12, 1938 — June 9, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of James Snyder Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who peacefully departed this life on June 9, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on December 12, 1938, in Barberton, Ohio, James was the cherished son of Russell and Florilla Snyder, who have preceded him in death. James lived a life rich in love, laughter, and dedication. Growing up in Ohio, he graduated from Manchester High School, where he began forming the foundations of a life filled with meaningful relationships and rewarding experiences. In November 1961, James answered the call to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army, where he proudly served until September 1967. His time in the military was marked by the same steadfast commitment and resilience that would characterize his entire life. In April of 1961, James married the love of his life, Rita, embarking on a journey of nearly 50 years together until her passing. Their marriage was a testament to devotion, filled with shared adventures and an unwavering partnership. Together, they raised their sons, James Snyder Jr., who preceded him in death, and Ted Snyder, who alongside his wife Beth, remains to carry forward James' legacy. James’ career was marked by dedication and integrity. He began his professional journey at Ohio Brass Company but found his true calling as a Sheet Metal Worker with Roth Brothers, where he spent the majority of his career. His work was respected and valued, much like the man himself. Beyond his professional achievements, James was a man of varied interests and passions. He found solace and joy in the great outdoors, spending many summers exploring national parks with his family. Isle Royale held a special place in his heart, where he relished the opportunity to canoe, fish, and revel in the tranquility of nature. These adventures were often punctuated by the perfect nap, a testament to his belief in savoring life's simple pleasures. James had a zest for life that extended beyond nature. He was an avid gardener, cultivating everything from tomatoes to watermelons, a pursuit that brought him immense joy. His ornery personality and quick wit were well known, often sharing a clever quip or a humorous story, especially during the cherished evenings spent playing cards with lifelong friends. His family fondly remembers the dining room table conversations, where his stories from youth and "meaningful conversations" between dinner and dessert became treasured family traditions. In retirement, he delved into genealogy, unearthing family histories and connecting the past with the present. James is survived by his son Ted and daughter-in-law Beth, daughter-in-law Evelyn Snyder, his grandchildren Frank Runyon and wife Sam Jakob, Jayne Wingrove and husband Frank Wingrove III, Cori Snyder, Hannah Rogers and husband Payton Rogers, Jenna Snyder, and Nora Snyder, as well as his great-grandchildren Cameron Ash and Channing Rogers. His family was his pride and joy, and his love for them was boundless. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at St. Luke’s Portage Lakes and Cleveland Clinic Hospice for their compassionate care and support during James’ final days. James Snyder Sr. will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of love, humor, and steadfastness will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of sharing in his remarkable life. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Rita and son James Jr., and forever cherished in our hearts.
