James Smith

December 12, 1936 — January 20, 2025

James Smith, a dedicated family man, engineer, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at his home on January 20, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on December 12, 1936, in Austin, Texas, James was the beloved son of John and Mary Smith and grew up with his brother Jake, who predeceased him. A graduate of the University of Texas, James embarked on a lifelong career in the oil industry as an engineer. His work was not just a profession but a testament to his commitment and passion for innovation and excellence. His colleagues remember him as a person of integrity and dedication, whose meticulous work helped shape the industry. Forty years ago, James married the love of his life, Mary, with whom he shared a beautiful journey filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Zoe and Kate, who were his pride and joy. James was a devoted grandfather to his four grandchildren, each of whom he adored and cherished. He often shared stories and laughter with them while teaching them the art of woodworking and crafts—skills he mastered and took great joy in. James was known for his warm humor, kind heart, and caring nature. He had a unique ability to bring smiles to those around him, always ready with a joke or a kind word. His generosity and compassion were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A man of faith, James was an active member of his local church, where he found a community that shared his values and beliefs. In his leisure time, James enjoyed woodworking and crafting, creating beautiful pieces that adorned his home and those of his loved ones. But more than anything, he cherished the moments spent with his family, nurturing relationships that were the cornerstone of his life. A service to honor and celebrate James's life will be held on January 30, 2025, at 3:00 PM at St. Mary's Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in James's memory, continuing his legacy of giving and supporting causes close to his heart. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Austin Hospital for their care and support. Their dedication and compassion made a significant difference in James's final days. James Smith will be remembered not only for the life he lived but for the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the legacy he leaves behind. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends. Rest in peace, dear James; you will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
