James S Richmond
May 13, 1944 — October 27, 2026
James S. Richmond, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on October 27, 2026, surrounded by love. Born on May 13, 1944, in Fall River, MA, James led a life marked by service, devotion, and joy.
James was the beloved son of Roy and Elizabeth Richmond, who predeceased him, as did his beloved wife, Henrietta, with whom he shared 61 wonderful years. Together, James and Henrietta raised two devoted daughters, Melanie A. Richmond and Shana L. Richmond, nurturing a family that would grow to include two treasured grandsons, Cameron J. Mally and Mathew T. Mally.
In 1966, James embarked on a distinguished career in the United States Air Force, serving his country with honor during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Sergeant before his discharge in 1970. During his service, he honed his skills in diesel engine mechanics, an expertise he later applied in his career with Texaco and RIPTA.
A man of many passions, James was well-known for his love of bird watching, kayaking, and photography. These hobbies allowed him to revel in the natural beauty around him, capturing moments that brought him and others immense joy. His hands were never still for long; they were often busy with creative pursuits such as cutting whales out of wood or collecting pallets for kindling. No pile of wood was too daunting for him to stack with care beside his cherished woodstove.
Beyond his hobbies, James possessed an infectious love for trivia and spent countless hours sharing his knowledge of history with his grandsons. Known for his quick wit and ever-present wisecracks, he brought laughter and light to all who knew him. His kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
James is survived by his loving daughters, Melanie and Shana, his grandsons, Cameron and Mathew, and his brother, Roger M. Richmond. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Providence VA for their compassionate care and to Jeff Napier for his unwavering friendship and support, standing by James as a steadfast companion.
In keeping with James's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. The family kindly suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in James's memory to a charity of one's choice or to support veterans' services.
James S. Richmond will be remembered not only for his service and dedication but for the warmth, humor, and love he shared with family and friends. His legacy endures in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.
