In Loving Memory

James Ross Todd, Jr.
March 29, 1945 — June 1, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of James Ross Todd, Jr., affectionately known as Jim, who left this world peacefully at home on June 1, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on March 29, 1945, in Malden, Massachusetts, to James Ross Todd, Sr. and Josephine Nardone Todd, Jim was a beacon of love, laughter, and kindness to all who knew him.
Jim's life was a testament to the values of dedication and service, qualities that he embraced following his graduation with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Boston State University in 1968. He embarked on a career that combined his passions for teaching and sports, beginning at Mansfield Middle School in Massachusetts. As both an educator and coach, he inspired countless students in science, football, basketball, and track and field, while also serving as the school's athletic director. In 1985, Jim, along with his beloved wife, Patricia A. Garlick, and their family, moved to Coral Springs, Florida. There, he continued to nurture young minds and spirits at Coral Springs Middle School and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School until his retirement.
In later years, Jim's journey took him to Georgia and then back to Florida, where he contributed his talents to the Art Institutes in Atlanta and Ft. Lauderdale. Throughout his life, Jim remained an active member of the Lions Club, offering his time and leadership in various communities, and was a cherished member of Ford's Chapel United Methodist Church in Harvest, Alabama.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was a man of many interests and heartfelt connections. His devotion to the University of Alabama Crimson Tide was rivaled only by his love for the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, Red Sox, and Bruins. Yet, his greatest joy was found in supporting and celebrating the lives of his grandchildren—Jarrett, Lily, and Ross—whether attending their games, recitals, or simply cheering them on from his favorite recliner.
Jim's warmth extended to his love for cooking and grilling, where he was known as the "Grill Master" at Bama football games, tailoring each menu with creativity and humor. His home was a place of welcome, where he and Patty opened their hearts to countless friends, students, and family members, creating a legacy of kindness and support.
His humor, quick wit, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Jim's dogs, alongside his granddogs, were never far from his side, sharing in his warmth and affection. Whether volunteering at church events, supporting community initiatives, or dancing with Patty in their kitchen, Jim lived his life with a joyful heart.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Patricia, their children James Ross Todd, III and his wife Kimberly, and Kristin Margaret Todd-Gallien; cherished grandchildren Jarrett Tucker Hinote, Lily Margaret Hinote, and James Ross Todd, IV; his loving siblings Carol Griffin, Ruth Graham, and Jeannie Zaleski; and an extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, James Ross Todd, Sr. and Josephine Nardone Todd.
A service to celebrate Jim's life will be held on June 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Ford's Chapel United Methodist Church, 280 Ford Chapel Drive, Harvest, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jim's memory to the Ardmore Lions Club and Ford's Chapel UMC, organizations close to his heart.
The Todd family extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone for their support, prayers, and cherished memories of Jim. As we remember his life, may we carry forward his legacy of love, kindness, and humor, knowing that he is now watching over us with a smile and a quick-witted remark, forever our guiding light.
