James Reeds Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Reeds Jr., a beloved son, brother, and friend, who left this world on June 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with heart disease. Born on January 30, 1949 in Charleston, South Carolina, he attended Long Beach Poly High School. James was a bright light of warmth and humor, whose presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him. James was the cherished son of Mary Alice Reeds, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. Though he was predeceased by his loving mother and sister Annie Mae Reeds Floyd, his surviving sister, Pearline Bates, continues to hold his memory close, cherishing the countless moments they shared. Pauline holds memories of their childhood like play fighting, talking trash, reminiscing over times she visited him in Texas, having beers for fun and hanging out. Those were the good old days. He is the father of his eldest daughter, Angel Reeds McCraw, James George Reeds, and Dawayne Reeds along with his lovely grandkids Tashena Jones, Imari McCraw, Joel McCraw, Jaxon Reeds, Dominic Reeds; and great grandson Malachi Bailey. As a proud veteran, James served his country with honor in the United States Air Force, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism. He served in the Vietnam, the Philippines, Okinawa, Japan, Arizona, California, and Texas. He retired as a master sergeant on 9/1/1991. Following his service, he dedicated his professional life to helping others as a lab technician. Known for his skill and compassion, he made an exception to draw his own son's blood, a testament to his dedication to family. Beyond his career, James was a vibrant member of the Eagles Club in Sun City, Arizona, where he found joy and camaraderie. His life was rich with hobbies and interests, from painting, writing, fishing and gardening to dancing and sharing life lessons with his only daughter, Angel Reeds McCraw. James was known for his dry humor and witty charm, often lightening the mood with his playful suggestion to "let's go to the bar." He was a man of many talents, often tackling do-it-yourself projects with his reassuring mantra, "don't worry, I can fix that." James's warm smile and great heart left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. His unique blend of crazy fun and calming spirit was a gift to his friends and family who enjoyed his company at countless gatherings in Sun City. James Reeds Jr. was a man of extraordinary character and warmth. His legacy of love, laughter, and service will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
