November 23, 1974 — May 14, 2026

James Redd Sr., a beloved soul known for his quick wit, warm smile, and boundless love, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, surrounded by his cherished family in Las Vegas, NV. Born on November 23, 1974, in Pomona, CA, James was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew him. His departure leaves an indelible void in the hearts of many, but his legacy of love and laughter will continue to illuminate our lives. James was the cherished son of the late Katherine Edwards and Darvin Redd, whose memories he carried with pride and honor. Preceded in death by his parents and beloved family members Jerome Edwards and Kenneth Pete Lemond, James now joins them in eternal peace. Surviving him is his devoted wife of 26 years, Tyesha Redd, a partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams, beginning from their union on October 23, 1999. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their children Kazmonet Payna, James Redd II, and Darvyna Redd, who were the pride and joy of his life. He was a doting grandfather to Heaven Payna Redd, King Brown, Semaj Jones, Jermyah Jones, and Christian Tippins, each of whom brought him immense happiness and fulfillment. James was the cherished brother to Kijana Redd (Danyella), Thomas Redd (Wendy), Baron Edwards Sr., Christopher Edwards, and Hector Velez (Lissette). His sisters, Stacy Chavies (Allonedues), Carlotta Redd-Pamilton, and Lorretta Redd-Teamer (George), held a special place in his heart. His nurturing spirit was extended to his loving Momma Merrie Gail Velez and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and grandchildren, each of whom felt the warmth of his love and the depth of his care. A proud graduate of Fontana High School in 1992, James was a track star whose passion for running paralleled his zest for life. His love for food led him to the California School of Culinary Arts, Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena, CA, where he graduated in 2005. James's culinary journey began at Gabbino's Restaurant, where his talent and dedication propelled him to the role of sous chef at Texas Station and, ultimately, to Master Cook at the prestigious MGM Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. James's love for cooking was matched only by his love for his family and friends, for whom he constantly created delicious meals. Known affectionately as the "black MacGyver" and a "jack of all trades," James had the remarkable ability to make everyone feel loved and valued, leaving them with a smile and a heart full of joy. A celebration of James's life will be held on June 13, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Bread of Life, located at 2721 Coran Lane, Las Vegas, NV 89102. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the memorial fund, GOFUNDMEREDDFAMILY, to honor James's memory and support those he held dear. In the words of his family, "Light be with me, Light be before me, Light be behind me, Light be beneath me, Light be above me, Light on my right, Light on my left, Light be in me, Light be around me, Light in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Light in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Light in the eye of everyone who sees me, Light in the ear of everyone who hears me, Light when I lie down, Light when I sit down, Light when I arise. I arise today in the strength of heaven, In the light of the sun, the radiance of the moon, the splendor of fire, the speed of lightning, the swiftness of the wind, the depth of the sea, the stability of earth, and the firmness of rock." The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love from all who knew James and kindly asks for privacy during this time of grief. May his light continue to shine in our hearts forever.
