Born on January 16, 1974, in Hooks, Texas, James graced this world with a spirit of warmth and generosity that touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. James was a devoted family man, predeceased by his cherished parents, James and Mary Portal, as well as his beloved son, Michael. His legacy lives on through his son, Tanner Portal, and his stepchildren, Dann Linn (Jessica) and Carole Campbell (Joshua). He was a proud and loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren, who brought immense joy and light into his life. A man of deep family values, James shared a special bond with his brother, John Portal, with whom he created countless cherished memories. His family was his pride and joy, and he dedicated his life to their happiness and well-being. James's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and resilience. His laughter was contagious, and his wisdom was a guiding light. He had a remarkable ability to bring people together and create a sense of community wherever he went. The family will honor James's wishes with a private funeral ceremony, where they will celebrate his life and the indelible mark he left on their hearts. In memory of James, and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization dear to his heart that exemplifies his commitment to helping others. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is located in Memphis, Tennessee, and continues to provide invaluable support and care to children and families in need. James Portal's passing leaves a profound void, but his spirit will forever remain a guiding force in the lives of those who loved him.
