It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Phillip Reed, a beloved son, brother, father, and friend, who departed this world on May 2, 2026, at the age of 54. James passed away from complications of his pancreas following a double lung transplant, demonstrating immense strength and bravery throughout his health battles. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and a spirit that will forever be cherished by those who knew him. James was born on November 30, 1971, in Mesquite, Texas, to Phillip Reed and Clara Butler. He grew up surrounded by the love of his family, forming bonds that would carry him through life's various chapters. His early years in Mesquite were filled with the vibrant energy of a young boy who loved exploring the world around him, interests that matured into lifelong passions. From a young age, James developed a profound love for motorcycles, dirt track racing, and horses. These hobbies were not just pastimes to him but expressions of his vibrant spirit and zest for life. Whether he was revving the engine of a motorcycle or enjoying the thrill of the racetrack, James found joy and peace in these pursuits. He also cherished the simple, yet profound pleasure of spending time with family and friends, grounding himself in the love and laughter that they shared. James's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He loved his Lord and Savior, finding strength and solace in his beliefs, which guided him through the trials and triumphs of his journey. His faith was a beacon that illuminated his path and inspired those around him. James was predeceased by his father, Phillip Reed, and his brother, Mark Reed. His memory will forever be cherished by his surviving family, including his devoted mother, Clara Butler; his step-mother, Patsy Reed; his loving sister, Joann Blankenship; and his treasured daughter, Morgan Glenn. James is also survived by a host of family members and a special lifelong friend, Jimmie, who stood by him through thick and thin. The family invites all who knew and loved James to a celebration of his life on May 30, 2026. Services will be held at 2:00 PM at Rest Haven Funeral Home, located in Rockwall, Texas. It is here that we will gather to honor the memory of a man who touched so many lives with his kindness, humor, and unwavering resilience. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in the memories of James's laughter, his adventurous spirit, and the love he shared so freely. His legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him, reminding us to live fully, love deeply, and cherish each moment. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in James's honor to a charity of your choice, reflecting his generous nature and commitment to making the world a better place. As we say goodbye to James, we hold onto the belief that his spirit now rides on, free and unencumbered, surrounded by endless horizons and the eternal embrace of peace. Rest in peace, dear James.
