In Loving Memory

James Phillip Martinez
May 11, 1957 — July 5, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved James Phillip Martinez, who left us on July 5, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Born on May 11, 1957, in the vibrant Caribbean Island of Trinidad & Tobago, James was a beacon of light and love whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.
James was the cherished son of John Martinez and Jane Rodriguez and the devoted husband of Elizabeth Martinez. Together, they built a life filled with love and adventure, traveling the world and creating lasting memories. As a proud father, James leaves behind his children: Jason Martinez and Leslieanne Allen, along with his adored grandchildren, Jaida Martinez, Janelle Martinez, Riley Allen, Jarell Celmons and Jaylen Blue. Though his time with them was cut short, his legacy of love and laughter will continue to guide them.
Family was the cornerstone of James's life, and he was a beloved brother to Sebastian Rodriguez, Emmanuel Martinez, Ursula Rodriguez-Votor, Elaine Rodriguez, Vera Martinez-Edwards, Lucille Martinez, and Barbara Martinez. As an uncle to many nieces and nephews, he was a fixture of warmth and joy at family gatherings, always ready with a joke to lighten any mood and a smile that could brighten the darkest day.
For over two decades, James dedicated himself to his career as a construction superintendent with Bovis Lend Lease. His work ethic and leadership were matched only by his genuine care for his colleagues. A respected member of his community, James was actively involved in Our Redemption Church, where his faith and compassion influenced all who crossed his path.
James was not only a builder of structures but of relationships and memories. He cherished working on the home he lovingly built from the ground up for his family. His passion for travel introduced him to new cultures and friendships, while his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
To know James was to know kindness and generosity. His warm smile and calming presence made everyone feel valued and loved. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in the knowledge that James's earthly journey has ended, and his eternal life has begun. His legacy of love, faith, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his grace.
A service to celebrate James's remarkable life will be held on July 12, 2026, at 2:30 PM, at Raleigh Memorial Park & Mitchell Funeral Home, located at 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC 27612. For those who wish to honor his memory, donations may be made to Our Redemption Church, reflecting James's enduring commitment to his faith community.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time. We thank God for the precious gift of James's life and trust that we will one day be reunited. Rest in heavenly peace, dear James, until we meet again.
