James Percival

October 26, 1937 — November 2, 2026

James Percival, a beloved member of the Fitchburg community, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2026, after a short illness. Born on October 26, 1937, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Jim was the cherished son of James and Lillian Percival. Jim was a man of many talents and a heart full of love, known for his dedication to family, friends, and community. After proudly serving his country in the US Navy during the Korean conflict, where he worked as a cook on a battleship, Jim returned home enriched by his experiences at sea. His naval service was a testament to his commitment to duty, and he carried those values into every endeavor he pursued. Following his military service, Jim embarked on a career at Foster Grant Corporation, where he worked in the polymer division for many years. When the company closed its doors in 1986, Jim's entrepreneurial spirit led him and his beloved wife, Joyce, to open a dog grooming business. Joyce's passion for animals made this venture a perfect union of their talents and love. Later, Jim found his true calling as a letter carrier in Leominster. He took great pride in his work, forming lasting bonds with the community he served. His warm smile and kind nature made him a favorite among his customers, and he was a familiar and welcome presence on his route. Even after retiring from the Postal Service, Jim continued to engage with his community, working part-time as the Chief of Operations at the Fitchburg Car Wash on John Fitch Hwy. Jim's days were filled with simple joys that reflected his love for life. He cherished early morning breakfasts with friends at the Fifth St. Diner, where laughter and conversation flowed freely. A lottery scratch ticket was often his companion, a small token of hope and whimsy in his daily routine. Predeceased by his parents, his sister June, and his dear wife, Joyce, Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. He is survived by several nieces and close friends. Jims life was a testament to love, service, and community. He will be deeply missed, and his memory cherished by all who were fortunate to know him.
