September 16, 1931 — March 5, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of James Olly Holland, affectionately known as Jim, on March 5, 2026. Born on September 16, 1931, in Marston-New Madrid Missouri, Jim's ninety-four years on this earth were marked by love, laughter, and an enduring legacy of service and dedication. Jim was the cherished son of Robert Russell and Hazel Holland and the beloved brother to Harold and Lucille, all of whom predeceased him. He was also preceded in death by his devoted wife, Fran, with whom he shared a beautiful journey through life. A proud veteran, Jim dedicated twenty years of his life to serving in the United States Army, where he exemplified strength, courage, and integrity. After his honorable military service, he transitioned into a successful career as a real estate agent, where he spent thirty years helping families find their homes. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim's presence was felt in the community of Huntsville, Alabama, as an active member of the Pacesetter Lions Club. His commitment to service was a testament to his generous spirit and unwavering desire to give back to those around him. Jim's life was enriched by his passions. An avid traveler, he explored the world with curiosity and wonder. He was an enthusiastic fan of Alabama football, and his love for coin collecting was but one of the many interests that brought him joy. Those who knew Jim were often treated to his quick wit and delightful stories, making every interaction with him a memorable one. Above all, Jim was a family man. He is survived by his four children, Jimmy (Anne), Janet (Sam) Appleton, Jay (Michele), and Jerry (Carol), who were his pride and joy. He adored his ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. To know Jim was to love him, and his family carries forward the legacy of love and laughter that he so generously shared. A visitation to honor Jim's life will be held at Laughlin Funeral Home on April 25th, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, where family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate his memory. Following the visitation, a full military burial will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery, ensuring that Jim is laid to rest with the honor and respect he so richly deserves. In celebrating Jim's life, we remember a man whose sense of humor warmed our hearts, whose stories enriched our lives, and whose love wove the fabric of a family that stands strong and united. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service that will be cherished forever by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
