James Norwood
February 15, 1965 — June 1, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Norwood, a beloved father, grandfather, son, and friend, who left this world on June 1, 2026, at the age of 61. James passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
James was born on February 15, 1965, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, where he spent most of his life. As a child, he was known for his playful nature and infectious laughter, traits that would follow him throughout his life. Raised by his devoted mother, Lula Norwood, James grew into a man of integrity and kindness, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
A devoted father, James cherished his family above all else. Though he faced the profound sorrow of losing his beloved daughter, Jamesha, his spirit remained resilient. He found immense joy and pride in his five grandchildren, who were the light of his later years. He treasured every moment with them, creating memories that will be cherished for generations to come.
James was a man of simple pleasures and profound love. He found solace in his faith, often attending services at South Park Baptist Church, where he was a cherished member of the community. His faith was a guiding light that provided strength and comfort through life's challenges.
Those who were fortunate enough to know James remember him for his warm smile, generous heart, and unwavering loyalty. He was a man who valued hard work and believed in the power of kindness. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and joy — a testament to the life he lived and the lives he touched.
A celebration of James Norwood's life will be held on June 5, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at South Park Baptist Church, located at 7877 S. Coles. Family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched are invited to join in honoring his memory.
In this time of sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that James has been reunited with his daughter, Jamesha, in eternal peace. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in James Norwood's name to cancer research, in hopes of finding a cure for the disease that took him too soon.
Rest in peace, dear James. Your legacy of love and kindness will forever guide us.
