James Nick Tippings

September 26, 1941 — February 10, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of James Nick Tippings, who left this world peacefully on February 10, 2026, in the presence of his loving wife and daughters. Born on September 26, 1941, in the small town of Paris, Oklahoma, Jim, as he was affectionately known, lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service. Jim was the cherished son of Margurite and Grant Tippings. He spent his formative years in Norwalk, California, where he graduated from Excelsior High School in 1959. He was a man of immense bravery and strategic intellect, qualities that guided him throughout his esteemed 30-year career with the Los Angeles Police Department. As a key member of the Special Investigation Section (SIS), Jim embodied the spirit of protection and justice, always driven by a steadfast commitment to his community. In January of 1962, Jim married Nancy Ramsey, with whom he shared a beautiful life and welcomed into his heart her daughter, Bobbie Lynn, as his own. Together, Jim and Nancy were blessed with two sons, James Nick Jr. and Craig. Though life brought the sorrow of losing his beloved Nancy and son Craig too soon, Jim's strength and resilience were unwavering. In July of 2002, Jim's heart found new joy with Margaret Fisk, his beloved Maggie. Together, they forged a loving family bond, welcoming Maggie's daughters, Rilee Shea Fisk and Kristen Tebbetts, into his heart, making their family whole and complete. Jim's life was enriched by the laughter and joy of his 15 grandchildren, who were the light of his later years. Known for his quick wit, Jim was always ready with a joke or a whimsical song from his childhood, bringing smiles and warm memories to his cherished grandchildren. Outside of his professional life, Jim was a fervent sports enthusiast, with a particular fondness for football and basketball. He found joy in the camaraderie of watching games and the occasional thrill of boxing matches, sometimes even in Spanish, just to witness a good fight. Jim's life was a testament to courage, wisdom, and love. He was a pillar of strength and reason for his family and friends, always available with sage advice and a protective spirit. His legacy is one of deep care and unwavering support for those he held close. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional caregivers and friends at Cedar Hills Senior Living, whose kindness and companionship enriched Jim’s final years. In honor of Jim's memory, contributions may be made to Cedar Hills Senior Living, a testament to the community that supported him so lovingly. Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Maggie; his son, Nick Jr.; daughters Bobbie Lynn, Rilee, and Kristen; his sister Linda and brother Gary; and his 15 adored grandchildren. Though he has left this world, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. As we say goodbye to Jim, we remember a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of courage and kindness will forever inspire those who were blessed to know him.
