He was born on May 4, 1991, in the close-knit community of Platte City, Missouri, where he spent his childhood surrounded by the love of his parents, Judy and Larry Smith, and his brother, John. James was a vibrant soul who lived life with an infectious zest and an unwavering sense of adventure. From a young age, he displayed a natural affinity for the skies and the open fields, passions that formed the cornerstone of his life’s journey. After graduating from the Platte County R-3 School District, he pursued higher education at the University of Central Missouri, where he honed his skills and nurtured his dreams. With a heart as vast as the Missouri skies he adored, James found his calling as an airline pilot. His dedication to his craft allowed him to soar above the clouds, touching countless lives in ways only he could. His career was not just a profession; it was an extension of his love for exploration and freedom. Yet, James's feet were never far from the ground. His roots ran deep in the family ranch, where he found solace and joy working with horses. Whether he was riding across the open plains or tending to the land, James embraced life on the ranch with the same fervor he applied to the cockpit. James's spirit was one of genuine kindness and endless humor. Known for his ability to cheer up anyone facing a tough day, he was the kind of person who could light up a room with his smile. His penchant for pulling pranks endeared him to many, leaving behind stories that will forever bring laughter to those who hear them. Though life presented its challenges, James faced each one with courage and grace. He was predeceased by his cherished mother, Judy, whose memory he held dear and whose legacy of love and resilience he carried forward. He is survived by his father, Larry, and his brother, John, who will continue to honor his memory with every step they take. In remembrance of James, a private funeral ceremony will be held, allowing those closest to him to celebrate his life in an intimate gathering. Though the world has lost a truly remarkable individual, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
