James Merrill Krook, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Minneapolis, MN, on May 29, 1941, James, or "Jim" as he was affectionately known, lived a life full of dedication, love, and adventure. James was the cherished son of Merrill (Nook) and Gertrude Krook and grew up in a household filled with warmth and kindness. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Thomas, whose memories James treasured deeply throughout his life. In 1959, James proudly fulfilled his military service with the US Army, a chapter of his life that imbued him with a sense of duty and honor he carried into all his future endeavors. Upon returning home, James met the love of his life, Susan Pennington. They married on June 29, 1963, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned over six decades. Together, they raised three wonderful children, Jennifer, Christopher (married to Katy), and Christopher, instilling in them the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. James's professional life was marked by his dedication and tenacity. He worked as a crane operator with Truck Crane for many years, where he was known for his remarkable skill and unwavering work ethic. Later, he turned his passion for building and transformation into a successful career as a general contractor, remodeling homes with care and precision until his retirement. His work brought joy to many families, and his legacy lives on in the homes he lovingly crafted. In 1990, after having raised their family in Wayzata and spending some years in Colorado Springs, CO, James and Susan returned to Minnesota. It was here, surrounded by friends and family, that James found the greatest joy in his later years. Known for his infectious laughter and quick wit, he became a beloved figure in his community, always ready with a helping hand or a wise piece of advice. James was blessed with seven grandchildren who adored him and three great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. He took great pride in his family, often sharing stories of their achievements and adventures with a sparkle in his eye. His home was a gathering place, filled with laughter during family get-togethers, where he delighted in the company of those he loved most. In remembering James, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. His legacy is reflected in the lives of those he touched, and his spirit will continue to guide his family through life's journey. A private family service will be held to honor James's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice, helping continue James's lifelong legacy of generosity and kindness. James Merrill Krook will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love that defined his remarkable life.
