March 30, 1960 — October 31, 2025

James M. Finch Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2025, in a tragic car accident in Rochester, NY. Born on March 30, 1960, to the late George and Jeannette Finch, James left this world as he lived in it—surrounded by family and love, driving his grandkids around on Halloween night, embodying the warmth and joy he brought into every moment. James was a man of many trades and talents, a devoted husband to Penny A. Finch for 46 wonderful years, and a father whose pride in his four children—Robert (Tammy) Finch, Jamie (David) Besse, Crystal (Gary) Verescak, and James (Brenda) Finch Jr.—knew no bounds. His legacy continues through his 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, each a testament to a life lived with love, laughter, and generosity. A man of service, James dedicated part of his life to the military beginning in 1979. His sense of duty and commitment were hallmarks of his character, traits he carried into every aspect of his life. This dedication was mirrored in his career, though he was known to many as a loving father and an even more remarkable "Papa." James's love for life was infectious, and his presence was always felt. He found joy in simple pleasures—days spent fishing, weekends working on vehicles, and mornings savoring a cup of coffee. He was an ardent fan of WWE and found comfort in watching Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie with his beloved Penny. His smart remarks and funny jokes were legendary, as were his inspirational speeches that pushed those around him to strive for their best, for he always saw the potential in others. Preceded in death by his parents, George and Jeannette Finch, and his brothers, Donald Finch Sr. and George Finch III, James's departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. Yet, his spirit lives on through the stories, laughter, and love he shared with those who were fortunate to be part of his world. In honor of James's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate his life, a testament to the quiet strength and dignity with which he lived. As we remember James, may we hold dear the lessons he taught us—of perseverance, humor, and the boundless love of family. James M. Finch Sr. will be profoundly missed and forever cherished. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and an unyielding belief in the power of family. As we reflect on his life, let us be inspired to carry forward his spirit of kindness, joy, and unwavering support for one another.
