James Lynn Sloan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully on September 24, 2026, surrounded by his family, ready to meet his Lord and Savior. Born on October 26, 1954, in Jacinto City, Texas, James was a beacon of light and humor for all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was the cherished son of Nelda Renee James Sloan and the late Arthur Garland Sloan. James was a devoted husband to Michele Renee' Rowe Sloan, with whom he shared 50 beautiful years of marriage, nurturing a family grounded in faith and love. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Christopher Lynn Sloan, Angela Dawn Sloan Bowman, and Daniel Wayne Sloan. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Cameron Sloan, Conner Sloan, Gavin Sloan, Kaitlynn Sloan, Madalynn Bowman, Aiden Sloan, Colton Bowman, and Emma Bowman. James was a dedicated brother to Belinda Sloan Ischy and Dale Sloan, and a loving son to his mother, Nelda James Sloan. His family was his pride and joy, and he worked tirelessly to provide for them. For over 40 years, James was a switchman at Port Terminal Railroad, ensuring stability and comfort for those he loved. A man of deep faith, James was an active member of his church community. For over two decades, he was a familiar face at Heights Baptist Church in Alvin, TX, where he shared his warmth and laughter with all. His quick wit and ready smile were well-known, and his jokes often lightened the mood, making everyone feel at ease and valued. He had a remarkable gift for hospitality and generosity that touched lives in countless ways. James was a man of many talents and interests. He had a passion for designing and building, creating intricate furniture, aluminum metalwork, custom motorcycles and autos. His artistic flair extended to airbrush and paintwork, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and craftsmanship. A service to celebrate James's life will be held on October 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Heights Baptist Church, located at 1591 CR-144, Alvin, TX 77511. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice. In the words of Psalms 23:4, which offered him comfort in his final days, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." James Lynn Sloan will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the joy, love, and laughter he brought into the world.
