It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of James Leroy Freeman, who left this world peacefully on May 28, 2026, at the age of 71. James was surrounded by the love of his devoted family at Hope Hospice in New York, where he was cared for with tenderness until his final moments. James was born on November 28, 1954, in the vibrant city of New York to his beloved parents, Jim and Marylou Freeman. From a young age, James displayed a remarkable aptitude for understanding the inner workings of things—a skill that would serve him well throughout his life. He began his professional journey as a journeyman electrician, quickly distinguishing himself with his expertise and dedication. James's career saw him rise to the esteemed position of master electrician before becoming the facilities manager at Navy Federal Credit Union. His passion for his trade was evident not only in his accomplishments but also in his commitment to mentoring the next generation of electricians at a local college. His dedication to teaching and sharing his knowledge was a testament to his generous spirit and enduring love for his craft. On a beautiful day in an undisclosed year, James exchanged vows with Lourdes Entenza, embarking on a journey of love and partnership that would span an extraordinary 48 years. Together, they built a life filled with cherished memories and a loving family. James is survived by his beloved wife Lourdes, who was his constant companion and greatest supporter. Their enduring love is reflected in their three children—James, Katie, and Sean—who were a constant source of pride and joy for him. He was also the doting grandfather to three grandchildren: Dylan, Alder, and Betty, who brought light and laughter into his life. James was a man of many interests, with a particular passion for music. He found joy in playing the guitar, and his weekly sessions with fellow musicians at Jaycee Park became a cherished ritual, fostering camaraderie and creativity. Known for his relentless dad jokes, James had a unique ability to bring laughter to any gathering. His humor was a reflection of his caring nature, as he always sought to brighten the days of those around him. His siblings, Debbie and Tom, remember him as a steadfast brother whose kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand were unwavering. James's legacy is also marked by the loving memories shared with those who have predeceased him, including his parents and siblings, James, Katherine, and Sean Freeman, whose spirits he now joins. Though a private ceremony will be held to honor his memory, James's family welcomes the prayers and thoughts of all who knew him. They extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Hope Hospice, whose kindness and care provided immense comfort during his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to honor James's memory consider a donation in his name to a charity of their choice, spreading kindness as he did in life. James Leroy Freeman leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication. His spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
