Born on May 2, 1970, in Monroe, Louisiana, James graced the world with his vibrant spirit, compassionate heart, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
James was the cherished son of Millie and James Goods. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Millie Ann Goods, and his treasured daughter, Kaiya Smith. Left to honor his memory are his devoted father, James Goods; his beloved son, Khari Moise-Smith; his caring sister, Lisa Giles; and his steadfast brother. His family further includes his nurturing stepmother, Louise Bolden, affectionately known as "momma," as well as his uncles, Donald, Emerial, and Carl Woods, and aunts Sharon and Georgiana Woods. Although they parted ways, James shared many cherished years with his ex-wife, Dr. Petrouchka Moise, with whom he raised their children.
James's academic journey began at Southern University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in History, followed by master's degrees in both History and Economics. His passion for learning was matched only by his desire to share knowledge, inspiring those around him through both his career and personal endeavors.
Throughout his life, James was a beacon of resilience and wisdom. His love for history was not just an academic pursuit but a way to connect people to their roots and understand the world around them. His insightful discussions and thoughtful perspectives left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
James's life was marked by his dedication to his family. He found immense joy in fatherhood, and his children, Khari and Kaiya, were the light of his life. Despite the heartache of losing Kaiya too soon, James's love for his children remained a guiding force in his life, as he poured his heart into nurturing Khari's dreams and aspirations.
James's warmth extended beyond his immediate family to a wide circle of friends and community members. His home was always open, a place of gathering and laughter, where stories were shared, and memories were made. He was a mentor to many, offering guidance and support with his trademark kindness and wisdom.
The legacy of James LaTrun Goods is one of love, strength, and an insatiable thirst for knowledge.
