James L. Bonds
April 18, 1961 – March 1, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of James L. Bonds, who departed this life on March 1, 2026, after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. Born on April 18, 1961, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, James was a cherished son, brother, father, uncle, and friend whose presence will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
James was the beloved son of Terrell Bonds and Jane Cooper Bonds, both of whom have predeceased him. He was the second oldest son in a family of six boys, a role he embraced with love, responsibility, and a free spirit that touched the lives of his siblings. He is survived by his devoted son, Charles Bonds, who was his pride and joy, and his seven sisters: Maryann, Janice, Michelle (Darien), Antionette (Leon), Felicia, Beverly, and Grace. He also leaves behind his three brothers, Patrick, Danny, and Michael, along with a cherished sister-in-law, Patricia.
James's extended family was a source of strength and joy to him, including his three aunts, Mabel, Katie Mae, and Mary, and his uncle, Willie Shaw. His legacy lives on through a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a circle of special friends who became family over the years. Though his relationship to his dear friend Chris ended with his passing, their bond and love remain timeless in the hearts of those who knew them.
Educated at Arnold Middle School, Waller High School, and Harry S Truman College, James was a man of many talents, but none shone brighter than his passion for music. It was his sanctuary, his joy, and a gift he shared generously with those around him. His love for music was rivaled only by his love for his family, with whom he spent countless cherished moments, savoring the simple pleasures of life.
James was known for his free-spirited and outspoken nature, a fun-loving person who brought laughter and joy into every room he entered. His deep and abiding love for his family was evident in his actions and words, and his memory will forever be a guiding light for those he leaves behind.
In honoring James’s life, we remember a man who celebrated life with an open heart and a generous spirit. Though he did not live to see grandchildren, his legacy of love, laughter, and music will echo through the generations.
A celebration of James's life will be held at a date and location to be announced, where family and friends can gather to remember, reflect, and rejoice in the extraordinary life he lived. In lieu of flowers,
James L. Bonds will forever be in our hearts, a melody that never fades, a spirit that never dims. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love he so freely shared.
