James L. Bonds
April 18, 1961 — March 1, 2026
James L. Bonds, a beloved son, brother, father, and friend, departed this world on March 1, 2026, after bravely facing a lengthy illness. Born on April 18, 1961, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, James was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew him.
James was the cherished son of the late Terrell and Jane Cooper Bonds, who instilled in him a deep and abiding love for family—a value he carried close to his heart throughout his life. James was predeceased by his beloved partner, Chris, with whom he shared many fond memories.
Educated at Arnold Middle School, Waller High School, and Harry S Truman College, James was a lifelong learner whose curiosity and passion for knowledge were evident to all. He was the second oldest of six brothers, a role that he embraced with characteristic warmth and humor. His siblings, Maryann, Janice, Michelle, Antwinette (Leon), Felicia, Beverly, and Grace, along with brothers Patrick, Danny, and Michael, remember him as a fun-loving, free-spirited, and outspoken individual who brought laughter to every room he entered.
James's love for music was unparalleled. It was his greatest passion and one of his many remarkable talents. Whether strumming a guitar, tapping a rhythm, or simply listening, music was his sanctuary and his joy. He shared this love with his son, Charles Bonds, who survives him and carries forward his father's musical legacy.
James's life was enriched by the presence of a large and loving family. His sister-in-law, Patricia, aunts Mabel, Katie Mae, and Mary, and uncle Willie Shaw, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, filled his world with joy and companionship. The bonds he formed with his special friends were a testament to his open heart and welcoming spirit.
Though James did not have any grandchildren, his legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the memories he created. He was a man who embraced life fully, savoring the little things and finding joy in every moment spent with family and friends. His laughter was infectious, his spirit unyielding, and his love for those around him, unconditional.
James L. Bonds will be remembered as a man who embodied love, joy, and resilience. His memory will forever be cherished by the many whose lives he enriched. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life well-lived and a spirit that will continue to inspire us all.
Rest in peace, dear James. Your music will play on in our hearts forever.
