It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of James Kevin Bartlett, who departed this world on May 1, 2026, at the age of 68. James, affectionately known as Jim, left us in a manner befitting his joyful spirit, giggling at home while strumming his guitar to the tunes of Johnny Cash.
Born on December 6, 1957, in Adrian, Michigan, Jim was a beacon of light and laughter to all who knew him. He was the beloved son of Frank and Marilyn Bartlett, and though his father predeceased him, Jim carried his legacy with pride and honor. Survived by his loving wife, Tina, and two cherished daughters, Allison Bartlett of Pensacola, FL, and Paige (Tim) Carter of Trussville, AL, Jim's legacy is further carried by his adored granddaughter, Charlotte Carter, his devoted mother, Marilyn Bartlett of Milan, TN, and his brothers, Michael Bartlett of Milan, TN, and David Bartlett of St. Louis, MO.
Jim's life was one of dedication and achievement. A graduate of Morenci High School in 1976, he furthered his education at Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Engineering Science. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim's heart was firmly rooted in his faith and community. A devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur, he taught Sunday School alongside his wife and participated in mission trips that spanned continents. His compassionate service in Brazil, Mexico, Colorado, and Massachusetts touched countless lives and exemplified his dedication to spreading hope and goodwill.
A man of diverse interests, Jim found joy in music, often serenading those around him with his guitar. His strategic prowess in internet chess was matched only by his deep appreciation for time spent with his family, who were his greatest treasure.
Jim was a visionary who left an indelible mark on his field and those who had the privilege of knowing him. His contributions to the Army's airworthiness process and his mentorship of aspiring engineers are a testament to his enduring impact.
