It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Kennedy, who departed this life on June 19, 2026, at the age of 67. James was born on March 6, 1959, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and bravely faced life's challenges with courage and grace until his final moments. James was the beloved son of Willie Mae Kennedy . He was proceeded in death by his youngest brother Ronald Kennedy and nephew Demetrick Kennedy Curry. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, cherished by his surviving family, including his devoted mother Willie Mae Kennedy, his brothers Michael (Ona) Kennedy, Darrell Kennedy, and Robert (Aletha) Kennedy, as well as his sisters Geraldine (Clifton Sonny) Kennedy and Joyce Kennedy. James was also a proud uncle to a host of nephews, nieces, and a multitude of cousins and friends who adored him deeply. James was married to his loving partner, Shannon Scott Kennedy, with whom he shared many beautiful moments and memories. He was a dedicated husband, a loyal friend, and a source of joy to everyone he encountered. A graduate of Natchitoches Central High School, James went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army. His service to the nation was a testament to his unwavering dedication and commitment to the values he held dear. James was a man of many talents, but he is most fondly remembered for his passion for singing Gospel music—a gift he inherited from his beloved mother, Willie Mae Kennedy of the Gospelrettes of Natchitoches, Louisiana, his voice resonated with warmth and spirit, touching the hearts of all who heard him. His infectious laughter, quick wit, and great sense of humor brought light to many, making him a beacon of joy in the lives of everyone he met. Known for his kindness and generosity, James possessed an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. His warm smile and readiness with a joke to lighten the mood were hallmarks of the gentle soul he was. His life was a testament to the power of love and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. A service to honor and celebrate James's life will be held on July 3, 2026, at 1:30 PM at the Pentecost Baptist Church, located at 9725 Highway 1 South, Natchez, Louisiana 71457. Following the service, a burial will take place on July 6th at 10:30 AM at the VA cemetery in Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice, in memory of James's generous spirit and commitment to helping others. The family of James Kennedy wishes to express their deepest appreciation for the many acts of kindness, love, and support shown during this time of bereavement. Your compassion and care have been a source of comfort and strength, and for that, we are forever grateful.
