James (Jimmy) Lomax Jones

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jimmy) Lomax Jones, a beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Jimmy passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, at the age of 70, in the comfort of his home surrounded by loved ones. Born on June 18, 1955, in Grenada, Mississippi, Jimmy was the cherished son of the late James Lee Jones, affectionately known as Shorty, and Marie Chamblee Jones. His parents instilled in him a robust work ethic and a gentle spirit, traits that Jimmy carried throughout his life. He was predeceased by them and his beloved sister, Dorothy Marie Jones, whom he held close to his heart. Jimmy's journey began in Grenada, where he graduated from Grenada High School. His thirst for knowledge led him to briefly attend Tulane University, a testament to his curiosity and desire to better understand the world around him. He found joy and purpose in his family, being a devoted father to his son, Justin Lomax Jones, and a proud grandfather to his granddaughter, Katelyn Melzer. Jimmy's love for his family was unwavering and evident in every word and action. He shared a special bond with his brother, Bill Jones, and sister-in-law, Sharon, who, along with their children, added warmth and laughter to his life. Jimmy is also survived by several nieces and nephews who cherished his wisdom and humor, and a world of close friends who felt more like family. Jimmy's life was woven with the threads of deep connections and meaningful relationships. Known for his infectious laughter, gentle demeanor, and genuine kindness, he had a unique ability to make everyone feel valued and seen. His open heart and warm spirit made him a friend to everyone he met. Though he experienced life's inevitable trials, including the loss of his parents and sister, Jimmy's resilience shone brightly. He was a pillar of strength for those around him, facing challenges with grace and courage. His love and legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. Jimmy's memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends. As we celebrate his life, we hold on to the moments of joy he shared with us and the love he so freely gave. His impact on our lives is immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Jimmy's honor, a fitting tribute to a man who lived his life with compassion and generosity. A memorial service to celebrate Jimmy's life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
