It is with profound sadness yet deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of James “Jimmy” Lee Coleman, who departed from this world on May 4, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on April 14, 1943, in Chester, Pennsylvania, Jimmy was the beloved son of Leroy Banksdale and Annie Phyllis Coleman.
Jimmy was a man whose life was a testament to dedication, love, and service. For many years, he contributed his talents to the food service industry before embarking on a long and commendable career as a motor vehicle operator with the Department of Transportation for DC Public Schools. His colleagues remember him as a reliable and committed worker whose jovial spirit could brighten even the busiest of days.
Family was the cornerstone of Jimmy's life. He was a devoted husband to his cherished wife, Silvania Garces, and a loving father to his surviving children: Sharita Coleman, Kevin Coleman, Kenneth Coleman, Keith Coleman, and Karl Coleman. His love knew no bounds, extending also to his grandson, Kaleb James Coleman, and a bountiful legacy of 19 grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to his heart.
Jimmy was predeceased by his son, Dwain Day, and daughter, Denise Day, whom he has now joined in eternal peace. His family finds solace in the knowledge that he is reunited with them in love and serenity.
