James "Jim" W Molloy

James "Jim" W. Molloy, a cherished husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully on August 9, 2026. Born on December 29, 1953, in Providence, Rhode Island, Jim was the beloved son of William P. Molloy and Virginia (Valletta) Molloy. Jim's life was a testament to love, dedication, and commitment to his family and community. On September 8, 1978, he wed the love of his life, Ann-Marie (Mercurio) Molloy, with whom he shared almost 50 years of a beautiful marriage. Their commitment was a testament to unwavering devotion and mutual respect, providing a nurturing environment for their family. Jim attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Our Lady of Providence seminary in 1976 where he made many lifelong friends, played basketball, and excelled on the baseball field as an All-State catcher. For over 25 years, Jim served as an Inspector for the State of Rhode Island Department of Transportation, a role he performed with integrity and diligence. Jim enjoyed every day to the fullest and treated everyone he met with kindness and respect, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. Jim faced significant health challenges throughout his adult life but always answered back with strength, courage and it indelible will to live. His village rallied with him time and time again until almost every organ and joint had been replaced with generously donated or newer models. Jim was a person of deep gratitude and deeply appreciated the gifts life bestowed upon him. Jim dedicated over 30 years to the Cranston League for Cranston's Future. He held various roles, including Vice President of Gals Softball, Chairperson of Boys Baseball, and Executive Board Member. His contributions were honored with the title of President Emeritus in 2025, and he was inducted into both the Cranston Baseball Hall of Fame in 2024 and the Girls Softball Hall of Fame in 2026. His legacy in youth sports is a testament to his belief in nurturing young talent and fostering community spirit. Jim was a man of simple joys and profound love. He delighted in attending his grandchildren’s theater productions and sporting events, tending to his Mustang, sharing meals and coffee dates with lifelong friends, and along with his wife, overseeing arguably the most pristine green lawn in all of Cranston. Besides his devoted wife, Jim is survived by his beloved children Trisha Ann Molloy (Mark Marocco) and Scott James Molloy, his cherished grandchildren, James Malik Molloy, Sonya Molloy, William Mirza and Jack Mirza whose lives he enriched just with his presence. Jim will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends. Jim's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and care team members at Rhode Island Hospital and Brigham & Women's Hospital, especially Dr. Gregory Couper and Dr. Anil Chandraker, whose wisdom and compassion allowed Jim many extra years with his friends and family. In Jim's final act of kindness, an autopsy was performed with the report being shared with the transplant teams in the hope that knowledge gained from Jim's remarkable transplant success will enhance the lives of other transplant patients. Jim's life was truly a blessing to all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished forever. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 13, 2026, from 1pm-5pm at the CLCF Building located at 900 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests you consider donating blood to the Rhode Island Blood Center or becoming an organ donor in Jim's memory.
