James "Jim" Thompson, a beloved husband, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, at the age of 86, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on August 30, 1939, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jim's life was a testament to resilience, joy, and the enduring power of laughter. Jim was the cherished son of Myrtle and the brother of Ted and Gladys, all of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia, his sister, Margie, and his brother, Larry. He also joins in eternal rest his beloved daughter, Paula, whom he missed dearly every day. From an early age, Jim's quick wit and humor set him apart, endearing him to everyone he met. He was truly the life of the party, always ready with a joke or a story to share, bringing joy and laughter to those around him. Jim's presence was a beacon of warmth and light, and his ability to infuse happiness into the lives of others will be deeply missed. An avid music lover and NASCAR enthusiast, Jim found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was the thrill of a race or the soothing melodies of his favorite tunes, Jim's passions were a source of happiness and connection for him and his loved ones. His enthusiasm for life was infectious, and he inspired those around him to find joy in the world. Jim's legacy will be celebrated during a service on June 24, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Charlotte Memorial. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the remarkable life of a man who touched so many with his humor, kindness, and zest for life. It will be a time to share stories, shed tears, and find comfort in the memories of a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice in Jim's memory, as a way to continue his legacy of laughter and love. Though Jim may no longer be with us, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we say farewell to a remarkable man, we hold onto the precious memories and the light he brought into our lives. May he rest in peace, forever cherished and remembered.
