James "Jim" Easley

April 26, 1939 — May 27, 2026

James "Jim" Easley, a man of fierce resilience and deep, quiet devotion, passed away peacefully at the age of 87. Born in St. Helena, Louisiana, to Milton Easley and Lydia (Beal), Jim grew up in the post-Depression rural South—a time and place that taught him how to survive, understand the land, and build anything he set his mind to with his own two hands. A former Merchant Marine, Jim’s early years were full of movement and grit, taking him all the way to California before he eventually returned home to put down deep roots in St. Tammany Parish and Lacombe. He was a man shaped by his history; he knew the plants, the bayous, and the old ways of living. He was the kind of grandfather who would hand a teething baby a Slim Jim, a testament to a generation that loved fiercely, if not always traditionally. Jim was a man of contrasts. He lived a big, complicated life, and while he wasn’t always the easiest person, he was unwavering when it counted. He was always there when the people he cared about needed him most. Nothing proved that more than his love for his late wife, Kathy. In her final days, when words weren't enough, Jim could be found outside quietly watering her plants—a profound act of steady, grounded love. In his later years, that same protective devotion was given to his two beloved little dogs, his "girls," who never left his side. Jim joins his parents, his beloved Kathy, and several of his siblings and children who went before him. He leaves behind a sprawling legacy of surviving brothers and sisters, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family who will never forget his strength, his stories, or his unforgettable 60th birthday party. His two cherished girls are relocating to Texas, where they will continue to be fiercely loved, protected, and spoiled by his granddaughter, Kat.
