James "Jim" A. Kent

November 1, 1953 — June 13, 2026

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of James "Jim" A. Kent, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this life on June 13, 2026, after a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer. Born on November 1, 1953, in the heart of Coshocton, Ohio, Jim was a beacon of kindness and strength to all who knew him. Jim was the cherished son of E. Lavern and Doris (Fitzpatrick) Kent, who welcomed him into a family that would grow to include his brothers Lee and Luckie, and sisters Debbie Ankrum and Janice Kent. Though his parents and siblings Lee, Luckie, and Debbie have preceded him in death, Jim's legacy lives on through the love he shared with his surviving family. A proud alumnus of River View High School, Jim pursued higher education at Eastern Kentucky University, where he cultivated his passion for music and earned a degree in Music. Driven by a desire to make a difference, he also achieved a degree in Elementary Education. His dedication to learning and teaching led him to touch countless lives as an educator in Youngstown and a substitute teacher within the River View School District. Jim's career was as multifaceted as his personality. He served honorably as an auxiliary police officer in Coshocton and contributed to public safety while the 911 system was implemented at the sheriff's office. His journey also included roles as an insurance agent with Western and Southern Life Insurance, a security guard in Columbus, and as a dedicated employee for the State of Ohio. In December of 1996, Jim married the love of his life, Patricia "Trish" Kent. Together, they shared a beautiful and fulfilling life, filled with love and laughter. Though they did not have grandchildren, their son, Chauncy (Alyssa) Kent, was a source of immense pride and joy. Jim's life was enriched by his deep faith in God and his involvement with the Walhonding Rube Band, where he found community and joy in music. An avid reader, Jim's curiosity and love for learning never waned, inspiring those around him to seek knowledge and wisdom. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Trish, his beloved son and daughter-in-law, Chauncy and Alyssa, his sister Janice, and his many nieces and nephews: Damon (Tina), Holly (Anthony) Caudill, Mark Hedington, Ben (Molly) Ankrum, Monica (Rob) Lewis, Amanda (Larry) Ankrum, Marissa Schmucker, and Ryan Schmucker. Jim was also dearly loved by Faith Myers, whom he cherished as a granddaughter. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Crystal Jarvis, whose unwavering support and kindness during Jim's illness were a source of comfort and strength. A private ceremony will be held in Jim's honor, as the family gathers to celebrate the life of a man whose love and legacy will forever remain in their hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages expressions of sympathy to be directed towards organizations supporting cancer research, in the hope that others may benefit from the advancements and compassion that Jim so greatly valued. While Jim's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, the indelible mark he left on our hearts will endure, reminding us always of the power of love, resilience, and faith.
