A Soldier’s Final Salute
To my family and loved ones, I have completed my journey here on earth, and now I have been called to a place of peace. Please don't let the sadness of my leaving overshadow the memories we shared and the life I lived. I proudly wore the uniform and served my country from 1972 to 1975. My time as a soldier was an important part of my journey, and the strength I found along the way carried me through many chapters of my life. Today, my earthly duty is complete. There are no more battles to fight, no more burdens to carry, and no more miles left to travel. To my family, continue to love one another and hold close the memories that make you smile. Remember me through the things I enjoyed—music, singing, cooking, sports, and reading. When you hear a song that reminds you of me, enjoy it. When you smell good cooking, remember how much I loved a good meal. And whenever you think of me, know that my memory will always have a place in your hearts. My final salute is not goodbye. It is simply until we meet again. Stand tall. Be strong. Keep moving forward. My service is complete. My journey is at peace. My memory lives on. Rest easy, James Isaiah Weston. Your watch is over.
