October 5, 1957 — November 22, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Howell Dunn, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on November 22, 2022. Born on October 5, 1957, in Augusta, Georgia, James was a gentle soul who touched the lives of many with his kindness and generosity. James was the cherished son of Alice Daggett and T.W. Marshall, and he grew up surrounded by love and warmth. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Jenny MaGahee, whose memories he held close to his heart throughout his life. A proud alumnus of Harlem High School, James carried the values of hard work and determination into his adulthood. Though the exact date of his graduation is not certain, the impact of his education was evident in the thoughtful and compassionate man he became. James had a lifelong passion for basketball, a sport that not only brought him joy but also served as a metaphor for his approach to life—teamwork, dedication, and perseverance. His love for the game was matched only by his love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, survived by his children: Monique Crawford, Keith Dunn, Jermaine Crawford, Porscha Crawford, and Jamon Crawford. James was also the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride into his life. James was known to all as one of the most loving and caring people one could encounter. He embodied selflessness, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer the shirt off his back to someone in need. His warmth and generosity were the cornerstones of his character, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor James's memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting James’s spirit of giving and his desire to make the world a better place. Though he is no longer with us, James Howell Dunn's legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will forever remain in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family of James Howell Dunn welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.
