James Hick
December 24, 1941 — June 7, 2026
James "Jim" Hick, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on December 24, 1941, in the vibrant heart of the Bronx, NY, Jim was the cherished son of Edward and Catherine Hick. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Robert and Edward, and his sister Mary.
A proud alumnus of Cardinal Hayes High School, Jim graduated in 1959 from Hunter College with a bachelor’s degree, laying the foundation for a lifetime of dedication and service. Between 1964 and 1966, Jim honorably served our country as a member of the US Army, bravely participating as a Vietnam Veteran—a chapter of his life he held with immense pride.
Jim found the love of his life, Carol McKeon, and on June 27, 1970, they began a journey of love and companionship that spanned 55 wonderful years. Together, they nurtured a loving family, raising two daughters, Cathy Zoretic and Meghan Hick. He was not only a devoted husband and father but also an adored “Poo-Pa” to his grandsons Nicholas, Aiden, and Liam Zoretic, with whom he shared countless moments of joy and laughter.
His professional life was marked by a distinguished 36-year career as a Bank Examiner for the US Department of Treasury, from which he retired in 2003. Jim was a man of integrity and dedication, whose work was characterized by the same kindness and generosity that defined his personal life.
An active member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Jim's faith was a guiding light throughout his life. His passions included cheering for the NY Giants on Sunday afternoons, indulging in his love for woodworking, and embarking on adventures around the world with his beloved family.
Jim's legacy is one of love, kindness, and family. His gentle spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering support will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to know him. His dedication to his family was unparalleled, and he found endless joy in the company of his loved ones, whether gathered around the dinner table or exploring new destinations.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on July 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew’s Chapel, located at 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28277. The family warmly invites friends and family to a Celebration of Life luncheon to share memories and reflect on Jim's extraordinary life, with details to be determined, from 2:30 to 4:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jim's memory to a charitable organization of your choice, as a testament to his generous spirit.
Jim Hick’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and kindness. He will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
