Obituary: James Hampton Bailey It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Hampton Bailey, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on June 3, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on November 8, 1935, in Middletown, Ohio, James was the cherished son of Elbert Hampton Bailey and Addie Ginter Bailey. His life's journey was marked by a deep love for his family, an insatiable curiosity for learning, and a zest for life's adventures. James grew up in Middletown and graduated from Middletown High School in 1953, a testament to his dedication and thirst for knowledge. He went on to work at ARMCO Steel in his hometown, where he dedicated his career as a maintenance technician until retirement. His colleagues remember him as a hardworking and reliable presence, always ready with a quick wit and a helping hand. Throughout his life, James was a passionate photographer, capturing the beauty he found in the world around him. This love for photography was matched only by his enthusiasm for travel. His adventures took him across the globe, but it was San Diego that captured his heart, where he resided for the last 42 years of his life, embracing the seaside's tranquility and warmth. James was a man of many stories, known for his quick temper as much as his quick wit. Friends and family often found themselves captivated by his tales and his infectious laughter. He loved the solitude of California life, embracing every sunny day with gratitude, often saying he'd never leave because of the beautiful weather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Addie Bailey, his siblings Gerald Bailey and Phyllis Grass, his sons James Bailey Jr and Bryan Scott Bailey, and his special love, Marilyn Seibert. James is survived by his loving son Dennis Bailey and wife Andrea, his son James' wife Anna Bailey, and son Scott's wife Linda. He leaves behind many beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Paradise Village and James' many friends there who enriched his life in his later years. In accordance with his wishes, James will be remembered in a private family ceremony, with his ashes to be scattered in a place that brought him peace. We invite those who knew James to reflect on his life, a life filled with love, photography, and travel, and to remember the legacy of joy and laughter he leaves behind. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the beauty he so cherished in life.
