James H. Sarros III
July 10, 1944 — June 13, 2026
It is with a heavy heart and deep reflection that we announce the passing of James H. Sarros III, affectionately known as Jim or Sarge, on Saturday, June 13, 2026. Jim, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully at the age of 81 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's. Born on July 10, 1944, in the sun-kissed city of Daytona Beach, Florida, Jim's life was a testament to love, service, and dedication.
Jim was a proud graduate of Murphy High School and furthered his education at Brevard Junior College, where he earned a degree in drafting. His skills and passion led him to a fulfilling career at Pratt & Whitney, where he contributed for many years. Jim also served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1971, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. His time in the Air Force nurtured a lifelong pride in his country and its flag, earning him the endearing nickname "Sarge."
In 1980, Jim married the love of his life, Phyllis Scott. Together, they shared nearly 46 years of unwavering companionship, raising two wonderful sons, Kenneth and his wife Kimberley, who blessed him with four cherished grandsons: Kyle, Kain (and his wife Shelby), Keegan, and Jackson. Jim's legacy extends to his great-grandchildren, Serena and Sylvester, who brought immense joy to his later years. Jim's family was further enriched by the love of his bonus children, Allan Hughes, Brandon Kovalsky, Bobbie Jo Sears, and Stefanie Flores, along with his bonus grandchildren, Paulina, Isabel, and Alex Flores.
Jim was a man of faith, dedicated to the Pentecostals of Okeechobee. His life was a tapestry of joyful endeavors, from cooking delightful meals to indulging in the rhythms of music. He captured the world through photography, journeyed through realms of science fiction in his reading, and was rarely seen without a crossword puzzle in hand. Above all, Jim valued the precious moments spent with his family, who were the center of his universe.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Jimmie and Barbara Sarros, his "mother in love" Audrey Scott, sister and brother in love Margaret and Buddy Mitchell, and sister in love Cathy Sarros. He is survived by his devoted wife Phyllis, his sons and extended family, his brother Tom Sarros, and brother James (Sandy), along with a host of family and friends who will carry his memory forward.
A service celebrating Jim's remarkable life will be held on June 14, 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice, in gratitude for the compassionate care provided to Jim in his final days. The family also wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Ardi R. Copas State Veteran Home. The friendships formed there will forever remain in their hearts.
Jim Sarros leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and country. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his warmth and generosity.
