James H. Newton

July 7, 1947 — August 28, 2026

James H. Newton, age 79, of Fontana, CA passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026. He was the fourth rose in a bouquet of nine roses. He was a devoted single father, a master of quiet humor, a serious foodie, and a lifelong lover of music. James walked through life with a gentle study grace. He was a quiet man, but those closest to him knew his wit was razor-sharp. He did not need to be the loudest person in the room to make everyone laugh. James's greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Leticia Newton. Raising her on his own was his life's highest calling. He taught her how to stand tall, how to laugh when things seemed hopeless, and how to find beauty in the small moments. Music was the soundtrack to Jame's life. He always had a record spinning in the background. He believed that almost any bad day could be fixed by turning up the volume on a good song. James leaves to cherish his memories; his beloved daughter, Leticia Newton, three siblings; Henrietta McDavis, Ronnie Anderson & Gwendolyn Kay Newton, three grandchildren; Lorenzo E. Lewis, Deshaunda Latiece Taylor (Anthony Hunter), & Russell Barkus (Diana Barkus), seven great-grandchildren; Zamar West, Nariyah Hunter, D'Anthony Hunter, Kayson Hunter, Kassidy Kayachith Barkus, Kloud Kayachith Barkus, Klay Kayachith Barkus, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who became family. He is reunited in peace with those who preceded him in death; his parents, Jeweline & Henry Newton, His siblings, Elzia Jean Hundley, Lura Mae Slaughter, Christine Elizebeth Newton Spencer, Ella Mae Newton Wilson; two brothers-in-law, Escryss Hundley Sr. & James MCDavis and his beloved Aunt; Lura Mae Foy.

Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there; I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die.
