James H. Hoskins

April 12, 1936 — October 15, 2026

James H. Hoskins, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 12, 1936, in Philadelphia, PA, James was the son of the late William Fisher and Gertrude Green. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George Fisher and Perry Forman, and sisters, Mable Friend, Violet Fisher, and Geraldine Griffin. James was a proud father to his nine children: Lisa M. Coleman, Angus Friend, Latisa Postiglione, Aisha Hoskins, Shakemia Will Mountori Hoskins, Edward Paul Hoskins, William Hoskins, and John Eric. He is also survived by his siblings, William Fisher, Thomas Fisher, Clementine, and Blanche Reese. His family extended to 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. Educated in the Philadelphia school system, James dedicated 35 years of his career to Funk's Trucking Company. Following his retirement, he channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into establishing a landscaping business in Denton, MD, during the early 1990s. A devoted father, he worked alongside his youngest son, Jimmy, until the business was eventually dissolved, though he maintained a few accounts to keep his hands busy and his heart fulfilled. A man of deep faith, James found spiritual community at Abrams Church, where he attended services with his brothers, Pastor Thomas Fisher and Deacon Billy Fisher. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through both challenges and celebrations. James had a zest for life that was evident in his many passions. He loved the freedom of the open road on his motorcycle, the rhythm of the dance floor, and the simple pleasure of a seafood feast. Western films were a favorite pastime, and he was known for his distinct personal style—often wearing cowboy attire, complemented by his signature Aramis cologne, and driving flashy vehicles and motorcycles. James leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and joy. His close friends, Wes, Linda, Kylie, and Jake Schuman, along with his entire family, will forever cherish the memories of his kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit. A service to celebrate James's life will be held on November 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Denton Church of the Nazarene, located at 10660 Greensboro Rd, Denton, MD, 21629. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in James's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
