James Dean "Big Jim" or "Jimmy T" Thompson, a beloved son, brother, father, and friend, passed away on July 27, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born on April 12, 1960, in Santa Ana, California, James was the beloved son of Jerald Edward Thompson and Julia Ann Virgo Thompson.
James was known for his vibrant personality and larger-than-life presence. A gentle giant at heart, he was deeply admired for his unwavering kindness and generous spirit. His love for Elvis Presley and Betty Boop was well-known among his family and friends, bringing a unique charm to his character that many cherished.
James's journey through life was marked by dedication and hard work. After earning his high school diploma, he went on to complete training at the police academy and served as a sheriff deputy in San Antonio. His career also included time as a steel worker for Trinity Steel in Lufkin, Texas, and he pursued his passion for animals as a quarter horse rancher. Throughout his various roles, James demonstrated a remarkable work ethic and a commitment to serving his community.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jerald Edward Thompson and Julia Ann Virgo Thompson, his grandparents, James Posse Thompson and Dortha McDaniels Thompson, and his brother, Robert Dennis Thompson. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
James is survived by his loving children, including his daughter, Ammie Leigh Thompson, and two sons whose names are not known. Stepmother, Irene Thompson, He also leaves behind his devoted siblings: Diana Lee Thompson of Katy, Texas; Roberta Ann Thompson of Wisconsin; Cindi A. Burbank Sanders from Henderson, Texas; Nancy E. Thompson of Portland, Oregon; and Tommy Lee Griffith of Portland, Oregon. His family extended to numerous nieces and nephews, including Jerry Thompson, Eddie Thompson, Adam and Natalie Hall, Bobby Hall, Charlsie Hall Abbott, Erica Berry, Oueteka Marshall, Taylor Sander, Trent Sander, and many cherished great-nieces and nephews.
James's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and friendship. He touched the lives of many with his warmth, generosity, and good humor. As we remember him, let us carry forward the joy and kindness that he shared with all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in James's memory to a charity of your choice. His family expresses their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. May James rest in peace, forever remembered and forever loved.
