It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of James Frazier Tyler Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. James passed away peacefully at his home on May 29, 2026, after a courageous battle with multiple illnesses. He was 81 years old.
Born on March 27, 1945, in the charming town of Cambridge, Maryland, James was the beloved son of the late Sherwood and Myrtle Tyler. Adopted and raised in a nurturing environment, he grew up alongside his grandparents, Sadie and Frazier, and his Aunt Ruth and Uncle Arther, who all played vital roles in shaping the remarkable man he became.
James was a man of deep faith and conviction, devoting his life to the service of others. A graduate of Cambridge High School in 1945, he pursued higher education at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, followed by further studies at Nasua Bible College in Florida. His academic journey equipped him with the knowledge and passion to embark on a fulfilling career in ministry. For over 25 years, James served with unwavering dedication as a youth pastor, Associate Pastor, and pastor, spreading the teachings of the Bible and offering guidance to countless individuals. His journey in faith was further enriched by his active membership in the Assembly of God church, where he was known for his devout study of the scriptures.
Before his calling to the ministry, James worked at Dupont in Seaford, Delaware, where he honed his skills in construction and electrical work. These talents, combined with his profound biblical knowledge, were gifts he generously shared with both his family and his community.
James was blessed with two loving marriages. He shared 33 wonderful years with his late wife, Linda Sue Tyler (Newkirk), and later found love again with Virginia Tyler, with whom he shared 10 beautiful years. Together, they crafted a family that was the cornerstone of his life. James is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia Tyler; his children, Jenny Lee Daniels, James Frazier Tyler Jr. and Teresa Tyler, John Wesley Tyler and Alice Tyler, Jason Paul Tyler and Misty Tyler, and Joel Lawrence Tyler and Jamie Tyler. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Timothy Scott, Amber Scott, Kevin Tyler, Cody Tyler, Nicholas Tyler, Nathan Tyler, Noah Tyler, Neil Tyler, Hunter Tyler, Logan Tyler, and Payton Tyler, as well as his seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Each of them carries forward the values and love that James instilled in them.
In his spare time, James found joy in studying the Bible and cherishing moments with his family. His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering faith were a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion that will continue to inspire future generations.
James Frazier Tyler Sr. will be remembered for his compassionate spirit, steadfast faith, and the profound impact he had on the lives he touched. As we celebrate his life, we find solace in the knowledge that he is now at peace, embraced by the love of those who have gone before him.
A service honoring James's life will be held at the Assembly of God church, where family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate the remarkable journey of a truly extraordinary man. Rest in peace, dear James, knowing that your legacy of faith and love will forever light our path.
