It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Frances Mauthe, a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this life on June 6, 2026, at the University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, after a courageous battle with illness. James was born on November 9, 1957, in Paterson, New Jersey, to Jessie and Joseph Mauthe.
James was a man whose life was an embodiment of passion, love, and laughter. He is predeceased by his parents, Jessie and Joseph Mauthe, and several dear family members, including his sister Melody, brother John, and sister-in-law Laurie. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his daughter Leah Sawey, his brothers Jeffery of Alabama and Jay of Missouri, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who cherished him deeply. His niece, Tina Barton, and her family, along with a host of other family members and friends spread across Georgia and Missouri, will forever hold him close in their hearts.
James was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Paterson, New Jersey, where he dreamed of becoming a culinary chef. His dream became a reality as he spent his career igniting taste buds as a chef in various restaurants. Cooking was not just a profession for James; it was a passion he delighted in sharing with those he loved. Known for his culinary prowess, James could turn a bad day into a great one with a simple meal and shared laughter.
A man of many interests, James enjoyed the thrilling world of wrestling and was a devoted fan of the New York Mets. He found solace in the simple pleasure of sitting outside, watching the sunsets, and reveling in the beauty of nature. His humor and warmth were his hallmark traits, often joking around with family and friends, leaving behind echoes of his laughter and joy.
James was a beacon of light to those who knew him, with an ability to make the mundane extraordinary. His smart wit and loving nature made every gathering special. He was a cornerstone in his family and community, always ready with a smile and a helping hand.
