It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of James F. Johnson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. James was called to rest on April 20, 2026, at the age of 77, surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. Born on August 3, 1948, in Newton, Mississippi, James was a beacon of warmth and kindness in the lives of those he touched. James was born to the late Pete Johnson and Bessie Gooden, who later became Bessie Gooden Parker. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother-in-law, Tommie (Vanessa) Larkin, who he now joins in eternal peace. James’s life was a testament to hard work and dedication. After completing his education through the 12th grade, he embarked on a career as a laborer, bringing his strong work ethic to JCJC, Wayne Farms, and the South Central Regional Medical Center. His colleagues remember him as a diligent and kind-hearted man who was always ready to lend a helping hand and a warm smile. A man of steadfast faith, James was an active member of the Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church. His faith was not limited to one place of worship; he often found joy in attending services at various churches in the surrounding areas, where he formed lasting friendships and shared his love for the community. James is survived by his devoted wife, Mincie, who was his partner and confidante throughout their many years together. His legacy continues through his sons, Micheal Burkett and Shawn Johnson, and his precious granddaughter, Lauren Johnson, who brought immense joy to his life and whom he adored beyond measure. James is also survived by his sister-in-law Joyce (Don) Watts of Hattiesburg, MS, sister-in-law Loretta Mitchell of Ellisville, MS, and his dear Aunt Nina Mae Hatcher of Gulfport, MS. Additionally, he leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish the memories and lessons he imparted. James lived a life enriched by love, community, and devotion. He was a man who embraced life’s simple pleasures and found happiness in the company of family and friends. His gentle spirit and unwavering kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. In honoring James’s memory, his family invites you to celebrate his life and the impact he made on those around him. Funeral services will be held at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church, where the community will gather to pay tribute to a life well-lived and a soul forever cherished. Though James has departed from this world, his spirit remains alive in the hearts of those he loved. May he rest in peace, enveloped in the eternal embrace of those who went before him, as his legacy continues to inspire all who knew him.
